The author grew up a in a fairly traditional mid-western suburban household. Guns were not uncommon growing up, but he showed little interest in ownership until becoming involved in the competitive shooting scene in the Bay Area as an undergrad. Despite no exposure to hunting culture as a child and early adult, he was intrigued by the numerous gun owners who would trod into the woods twice a year, and fire less than a magazine worth of ammo a year. After spending time in rural upper New England for graduate school, the idea of hunting became very interesting, but his larder nonetheless remained empty. Now, having hunted in five states and two countries, he is eager to become a more proficient hunter. With Bow, Muzzleloader, Rifle, and Shotgun he plans to hunt the upcoming 2015 season.
