Following the pheasant hunt, had a laid back afternoon. I bumped into P from the rifle class, while I was pheasant hunting, she was fishing on the Umpqua. She caught some monster fish including a big salmon…sadly, Oregon has some weird fishing laws. She had to release all the fish. Apparently, to take a salmon it needs to have a “healed adipose fin clip”, something about hatchery-raised vs. wild salmon. Oh well.
Gary and I took his Remington 700 in 300 Win Mag out to the KD range to verify zero. It was zeroed for 250 yards, so it shot about 2 inches high at 100 yd and about 1 inch left. Printed a nice 1 inch 3-shot group, which is pretty great for a factory sporter in 300 WM shooting factory ammo. Four clicks later, the windage was good, and any buck inside 250 should pretty much just hop in my freezer to save me having to pick up a spent shell casing.
6:00am wake-up call tomorrow. I’m looking forward to a good hunt.
